See, you can print that image out onto stock paper and keep it in your wallet. If anyone is a douche to you at any point in the day, just whip out your wallet, hand them the card and explain the purpose. Very convenient.

Why would anyone ever move to Gotham City? Close inspection of that map will reveal the officially recognized moniker for district (1) is Crime Alley.

I have never heard of a single instance of Gotham being peaceful or financially stable. Some lunatic is always trying to kill everyone in the entire city.

So, what would compel a person to live there in the first place?

The Good, The Bad, and The ... I forget...

The Good:

Two days ago, one of my students came up to talk to me. He's a real go-getter when it comes to English, often taking time to scribble down some new phrase that I toss at him ("Take it easy!" "What's up?" et cetera). Furthermore, he often shows an interest in what I'm doing, which is rare.

Anyway, I was sitting at my desk in the Staff Room and he came up to chat for a bit. I was working on a script at the time, so he asked to read it. After confessing that he couldn't understand any of it, he started looking for words inside his brain. Finally, he said, "I had a dream with you last night. No. Not dream. Wait. Yes. Dream." Then, he did a little pantomime for sleeping, swirling his fingers around his head to indicate dreaming. I nodded and told him that he had gotten the word correct.

Then, he said, "Sandwich. You were making lots of sandwich and giving them student student student. Everyone." Purest compliment I've gotten in a long time.

The Bad:

After the Arcade Fire show (more on that in a future post), I lost my train pass ($200). I went-a-looking for it and it was a-no-where to be found. So, I went to the police box and asked Naoko to talk to the officer and ask if he'd found it. When he was talking to her, he was all smiles and friendly. But, as soon as he realized that he wasn't helping her, he was helping a foreigner he shut down.

She asked him if he had found the ticket and all he said was, "I don't know. It's very difficult to answer a question like that. How can anyone know such a thing?" Then, he went back to staring at his desk. And refused to acknowledge that she was there.

Anyway, the next morning, I got a call from Prefecture Headquarters to come and pick up my pass. That it had been turned in. When I got there, I checked the report. And, what do you know? Officer Dogshit VonDouchebag filed the report ten minutes before we spoke with him.

Normally, I don't give a shit about people who are racist against me. A nasty look. Reluctance to help me at a store. Getting pushed out of my planned trajectory during the morning commute. No biggy. But, when your prejudice means a 5 hour detour on the way home from work, I get cranky.

The Ugly:

I have a cold.

My phone has a helicopter and you can't ride in it.

So, I was noodling around on my cell phone the other day and I found an interesting feature. I have access to basic GPS functionality. However, it's not in relation to the 24 (give or take) GPS specific satellites. Instead, it finds my phone in relation to the broadcast sensor network and then interpolates GPS data from that information.

What is kind of interesting is that I can snap a picture anywhere that I get reception and auto-embed this GPS data onto the photo. Then, I can go anywhere else in Japan (that I get reception) and take a picture with auto-embedded data there.

Then, I can tell my phone to tell me how to get from one picture to the other. What I'm presented with is a Mapquest style map and instruction that can leave main roads. That is, follow this main high-way, turn off, park, get out, walk over the hill, cross the river, and then walk 20 meters SSW and you will find the grove where you had your first kiss or whatever.

Now to find a practical application for this crap.

Asakusa Snow

Well, the snow came down on Sunday. It came down hard. I made a mad dash for Asakusa and Senso-ji Temple. Here's what I got on camera.
